Who We Are

a team of people surrounding the word dream

American Family Insurance Dreams Foundation

The Dreams Foundation amplifies the impacts that employees, agency owners, and policyholders have on their communities through co-creation of continuous engagements and trust-based investments. They operate internal engagement efforts through matching gift and volunteering programming. The Dreams Foundation builds on American Family’s long-standing commitment and support of communities we serve by offering unrestricted, general operating grants to non-profit 501(c)(3) partners. In addition, all Dreams Foundation grants are now multi-year. This means there is no longer an open call for grants. If you are interested in being considered when future grant opportunities arise, please fill out this form.

We focus our support on BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color), economically disadvantaged communities, and youth and young families. Our emphasis on closing equity gaps drives forward our work within these focus areas.

Dreams Foundation Impact

Among its philanthropic efforts, the American Family Insurance Dreams Foundation is proud to support nonprofit organizations doing impactful work in our communities across the nation. Discover how these partnerships help to remove obstacles, strengthen communities and help people pursue their dreams – like in the case of organizations like Catalyst for Change.

BECKY FITZGERALD: Catalyst For Change meets people where they are, be it deep in addiction, homeless on the streets. And we support in whatever way they need. JAMES SCHULTZ: I came from Waukesha, Milwaukee area. And I came out here to get sober. And unfortunately, things didn't quite work out the way I wanted to, and I ended up on the streets out here. And I lost everything.

MICHAEL MOODY: Whenever we don't maintain contact, that's usually when I start to worry. It's like, I haven't seen John for a week now. What's going on?

BECKY FITZGERALD: Our structure is based on two aspects. We have, CCS, which is case management that's based on mental health and substance use. And then we have outreach, who meets people on the streets.

JOHN ADAMS: You might see us out at parks interacting with people. Sometimes we mediate situations between law enforcement and folks experiencing homelessness, or you may see us driving somebody to the shelter at 8:30/9:00 at night so they can have a safe place to be at night.

MICHAEL MOODY: It's more than offering a service of housing. It's trying to really support a person to grow to the potential that they have and any direction they want.

HANA EL-OMARI: In some cases, we are their only support. Just even being there makes a huge impact.

MICHAEL MOODY: We'll always respect what you think, but you know that I worry, right?

SPEAKER: Oh, yeah.

JOHN ADAMS: We've encountered 400 plus unique individuals. And out of those 400 unique individuals, we've housed a little over 100. A lot of these folks need help rebuilding their lives, and that's essential to impacting them.

JAMES SCHULTZ: It's gotten rid of all that hopelessness. You get back your self-worth and your self-esteem. Just being able to take care of yourself is awesome.

MICHAEL MOODY: This is a community issue, and therefore we need to tap into community partnerships to make change. And to have an organization like American Family support us continuously fueled me to put 110% into it.

JOHN ADAMS: It's a feeling that never gets old when you're out here doing something you love. The support has went well beyond what we could have imagined.
